Anne of Green Gables

Anne Shirley, an eleven-year-old orphan, manages to maintain her optimism and vivid imagination despite the hardships of her early life. Her arrival unexpectedly changes the lives of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, two aging siblings who had intended to adopt a boy but instead welcome a spirited young girl. From that moment on, all three experience profound changes, and even the small rural community of Avonlea is touched by Anne’s presence.

Throughout the story, Anne grows from a child into a sixteen-year-old young woman, making mistakes along the way and not always learning from them immediately. Bright, impulsive, and as fiery as her red hair, she refuses to accept moral lessons without understanding them for herself. As she matures, she must also confront sorrow, loss, and the deeper meaning of love. Reminiscent of both Tom Sawyer and Jane Eyre, Anne ultimately becomes the true heroine of her own journey.
