In Tokyo, people burdened by loneliness, anxiety, and uncertainty turn to a peculiar pet shop in search of comfort. Each customer arrives carrying private struggles, hoping that borrowing a cat might offer the clarity or healing they cannot find elsewhere. Yet the shop follows strict rules: the cats must be returned after three days, and they must always sleep wrapped in their familiar blankets.

In The Blanket Cats, seven interconnected stories unfold through the lives of these temporary owners — from a couple facing infertility, to a woman fleeing the police, to families simply searching for happiness in difficult times.

But the blanket cats are no ordinary companions. Quietly enigmatic and impossible to predict, they seem to understand far more than their human hosts expect. As the days pass, each visitor begins to realize that what they truly need may be very different from what they first sought.
